Tunes On The Tube: February 5-11

Hi lovelies!

Ashley has reappeared into the blogosphere, and I don’t know about you, but I am so happy to see her! Her posts are always fun to read, and usually give me at least a couple good chuckles by the time I’m done reading. If you haven’t already seen T Swift’s manic Grammy dance moves or the Oscar edition of Between Two Ferns, I highly suggest you get yourself on over to Ashley’s latest post, where you can find them both.

While everyone and their mother were killing it at The Grammys on Sunday night, I was working on a big project for Creating With The Stars! My poor roommates have had to deal with a large piece of furniture taking up space in our dining area, along with the smell of primer and paint (don’t worry I keep the windows open when I prime!), since Saturday morning. And it won’t be back in our breakfast nook until this weekend, unfortunately for them. If you’re reading this, sorry Megans! (Yes, I live with multiple Megans.) My very exciting before-and-after major furniture redo will be up by Feb 21st, hopefully sooner. It’s still in the “during” stages, but I think it’s going to turn out great!

In the midst of Home Depot runs and priming and painting and spray painting and sawing and various other I’m-redoing-my-furniture-madness, I’ve managed to keep up with most of my shows, and I’ve got some awesome music for you this week. PRETTY LITTLE LIARS gave us Madi Diaz and Lianne La Havas (thanks, PLL!), and GREY’S (nine seasons in and I’m still watching) proved it still knows what’s up with a new track from Phosphorescent, along with some newish Grizzly Bear.

Tuesday, February 5th

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: “Burn” by Madi Diaz (from We Threw Our Hearts In The Fire)

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS: “Gone” by Lianne La Havas (from Is Your Love Big Enough?)

Thursday, February 7th

GREY’S ANATOMY: “Song For Zula” by Phosphorescent

GREY’S ANATOMY: “gun-shy” by Grizzly Bear (from Shields)

Enjoy, and happy Tuesday!

Tunes On The Tube: December 4 – 10

You know when you’re going through a bit of a tough time but you’re all, “This will be okay” and then you find out something that makes it tougher and then something after that that makes it A LOT tougher?  Welcome to my week.  I’ve officially had 2 breakdowns today, and 1 last night.  At the risk of sounding whiny, it really feels like I’m a punching bag for the big guy in the sky right now, and I’d like to know when it will all be better.  Oh wait, it won’t until I get through all the crap that’s happening NEXT YEAR.  That’s right, folks, my bad time is following me well into 2013.  My mom keeps reminding me I could have it worse, and she’s right.  I’m not dying.  I’m just having a bit of a particularly stressful financial crisis due to the state of the insurance system in this country.  Which I will get over.  Eventually.

After my latest breakdown at work approximately 30 seconds ago (don’t worry, my bosses are out so I’m not subjecting them to the horrors of my unprofessional cry face), you know what cheered me up just a sliver?  The thought that at least there’s a new PARENTHOOD tonight.  And then I remembered that just the promo for tonight’s episode made me cry last week, so I’m sure I’ll be doing some serious heaving and blubbering come 10:00pm.  Which might be just what I need… a bit of PARENTHOOD to clean out my system.

What about you guys?  Do you ever just feel like you need a good cry?  Do you have any shows that make you cry during every. single. episode. –  without fail?

Tunes On The Tube: October 23 – 29

Yesterday morning I had a conversation with my mom on the way to work that went a little something like this:

Me: “Mom, is it weird that I kind of wish I was in New York right now so I could hole up in my apartment and watch TV or movies or read books or something and not have to be in LA in the gazillionth week in a row of 85 degree weather???  And yes I know it’s a hurricane, but still.  They’re getting out of work and they have an excuse to stay inside all day.”

Mom: “It’s not weird, but there are a lot of people in the city being evacuated you know… you wouldn’t necessarily get to stay in your apartment.”

Me: “I know, but I still wish I was there.  I want something other than sun for once.”

Yes, I realize the power is going out everywhere and there are fires burning down houses in Queens and Sandy is a very real, very dangerous threat that is costing lives on the east coast.  And I also realize that chances are my power would be out if I was in NY and thus the whole notion of movies and TV being a draw is ridiculous.  I am constantly praying for the people affected by Sandy and I do not take the storm lightly, lest you think I have an image in my head that it’s all fun and games in NY right now.

I just can’t handle one more day of 80+ degrees WHEN IT’S ALMOST NOVEMBER.  I would love some weather.  Any weather.  Just something other than sun.  I mean seriously, people, when am I going to get to break out my sweaters and boots and scarves and warm layers?  I want fall!!  This 3 month-long heat wave has got to stop!  And no, I don’t count a few days in a row of 70 degrees as fall.  Especially not when it immediately warms back up to the 80’s (or 90’s, like it was on Sunday).

Dear Lord, please give Los Angeles the season of Autumn.  Amen.

Another reason I’d like it to cool down?  Because using a Saturday to stay inside, bundle up on the couch, and marathon season 3 of Deadwood just isn’t as appealing when it’s hot and sunny outside.  Who am I kidding, it’s still appealing because I’m always up for TV marathons.  What I meant to say was, it’s not as acceptable when it’s hot and sunny outside.  I worry about what people think, y’all.  I don’t want my roomies judging me for Deadwood-a-thons in the middle of Octo-summer.

Regardless, I have still managed to keep up with most of the past week’s shows, and I’ve got some pretty awesome tunes for you to check out.  If you’re on the east coast and still have power, they’re all good for some rainy/hurricaney day listening.  And if you’re anywhere else, they’re good in any weather condition, really. 🙂

Tunes On The Tube: October 2 – 18

Are you all as happy as I am that Ashley’s back?  Because I’m really happy!  Girl can write.  Plus she’s hilarious and can cook.  Basically she’s an awesome blogger and even if I didn’t blog with her, I would still read her blog.

Now I know her excellency the queen of blogging said that I’d be here on Tuesday with a new Tunes On The Tube, but y’all, I had some computer issues working against me.  Seems I can’t blog from my laptop at home anymore, because it’s old and slow and it takes me 5 minutes to type one sentence.  Not even exaggerating.  So I tried and tried and tried (and then tried some more) to bust this baby out for you on Tuesday night, but my computer would not cooperate.  Then Wednesday our internet went down at work (a very common occurrence, thanks to the WORST INTERNET EVER from Verizon) so I couldn’t use my lunch hour to blog it out.  And guess what happened when I came on yesterday to finally do it?  Our internet went out again.  Seriously.  Which means today is the day.  You’re finally getting alllllllll of the music from the last 2 1/2 weeks of TV.

By the way, was I the only one blubbering like a baby during GREY’S ANATOMY and PARENTHOOD last week?  Especially PARENTHOOD.  That show gets me like no other show on television right now.  If you haven’t watched it, you’re missing out.  It’s the most real, poignant, emotionally true, well-acted, well-written, well-directed show currently on any station, network or cable.  If you’re not already watching it, go buy season 1 now.  Or ask for it for Christmas.  And then prepare to fall in love!

Also, best song this week is from PARENTHOOD (surprise, surprise).  It’s the Little Daylight remix of Edward Sharpe’s “Man On Fire” and it is gooooooood.  Check it out below and if you love it, download it for free!

Thursday, October 4th

Tunes On The Tube: September 25 – October 1

Hopefully 4 days is ample time to fully digest all of the music I shared with you last Friday, because you’ve got more music coming your way.  Right.  Now.  Leave it to GREY’S and REVENGE to bring out the catchy indie tunes in their season premieres.

GREY’S has gone a little soft, reusing music from past seasons and depending too heavily (in my opinion) on certain songs to really drag out the emotional responses from its audience.  That being said, I still watch it (I think it’s an “I’ve watched it this long, I might as well stay until the end” type thing), and it still elicits the intended emotional responses from me.

REVENGE is one of my favorite shows music-wise, and I think its music supervisor is one of the best in the business right now.  I’m constantly discovering amazing new music as I drift through the dark side of the Hamptons, and my pick this week is no exception.  Except I already knew Chromatics.  But they’re really good and a lot of people don’t know them, so my guess is that most of REVENGE’s audience discovered something new on Sunday.

Here they are, folks – the first songs from the new fall season.  Let me know what you think!

Thursday, September 27th

GREY’S ANATOMY: “Feels Like The End” by Mikky Ekko

GREY’S ANATOMY: “Without You” by One Two

Sunday, September 30th

REVENGE: “Into The Black” by Chromatics (from the album Kill For Love)

Tunes On The Tube: May 13-19

This week the music supes at GG, HART OF DIXIE and GREY’S assaulted our ears with good music, as usual.  It’s all available below, as usual.  And that’s all I’m going to say about the music this week.

Now, can we please discuss the HOD and GREY’S season finales?  First off, a huge thank you to the writers at HOD for finally, finally allowing Zoe and Wade to seal the deal.  After 22 episodes of insane sexual tension, I would have thrown something at the television had they failed to get those two together!  Fortunately their bedded bliss finally happened (it was everything I’d hoped it would be!), and my TV is still intact.  Unfortunately, their bliss didn’t last long, as stupid George came busting in, declaring his feelings and kissing Zoe and confusing the poor girl to no end.  I mean, really, George?  Really?!?!!  Just let the girl get with Wade, already!  He’s been pining for her since the beginning while you’ve been off with Lemon!  I loved Jason Street, but I just cannot get behind George Tucker.  Team Wade all the way!!

Now on to GREY’S… which gets another REALLY?!?!?!?!!!! from yours truly.  I hated the writers for putting me through the shooting a few seasons back, and I hate them again for putting me through that plane crash aftermath.  For killing Lexi.  For leaving Mark alone after he’d only just realized he still loved her.  For hinting that Jackson and April won’t be together come next season.  But mostly I hate them for blatantly emotionally manipulating me over and over and over again.  And keeping me coming back for more.

On that note, here are this week’s songs!

Monday, May 14th

GOSSIP GIRL: “Bombs” by Golden State

GOSSIP GIRL: “In Your Nature” by Zola Jesus (David Lynch Remix)

HART OF DIXIE: “Wild At Heart” by Gloriana

HART OF DIXIE: “This Love” by FM Radio (from the album Out of the Blue) – available for listening on Spotify

Thursday, May 17th

GREY’S ANATOMY: “Featherstone” by The Paper Kites (from their EP Woodland)

Tunes On The Tube: April 22-28

My roundup of music on TV this week includes several repeat performers (Foxes and Mariah McManus were both on my list last week, and Daughter made an appearance a few weeks ago) and mostly bands that I already know and love (hello The Naked and Famous and Of Monsters and Men!).  You Say Party! We Say Die! is no longer active as a band, but their song “Heart of Gold” is worth checking out on Spotify.  Their entire album is worth checking out, for that matter.  Last but certainly not least, The Fray is back on TV with their song “Be Still,” which is one of the more beautiful songs I’ve heard in a while.

All in all, there is some seriously great music listed below, even if it’s mostly stuff you’ve heard before.  Enjoy!

Monday, April 23rd

GOSSIP GIRL: “Home” by Foxes

HART OF DIXIE: “Say It Again” by Mariah McManus (from the album Nice To Meet You)

MAKE IT OR BREAK IT: “Heart of Gold” by You Say Party! We Say Die! (from the album XXXX) – available on Spotify, iTunes and Amazon.com

GREY’S ANATOMY: “Lakehouse” by Of Monsters and Men (from the album My Head Is An Animal)

GREY’S ANATOMY: “Young Blood” by Birdy (from her self-titled debut album)

Tunes On The Tube: April 15-21

Last week saw one of my absolute favorite new artists, Foxes, get a very prominent placement in the last few minutes of GOSSIP GIRL.  I mentioned her a few weeks ago and told you all to go listen to the 2 songs she had released, then posted about her AGAIN when she released a 3rd song about a week ago.  Now GG is using her music.

Seriously, yo, if you haven’t already checked this girl out, NOW IS THE TIME.  My friends will tell you I’m an excitable person and I tend to talk things up, but I don’t get THIS excited and bring an artist up this many times unless I really believe they are something special.  Foxes is that artist.  Do yourself a favor and discover her now, while you can still see her in intimate, cozy little venues, before the whole world is let in on the secret and suddenly you have to fight to get tickets for her sold out arena shows.

Now on with the music:

Monday, April 16th

GOSSIP GIRL: “Youth” by Foxes

HART OF DIXIE: “A Soft Place To Land” by Kathleen Edwards (from the album Voyageur)

Tuesday, April 17th

Thursday, April 19th

GREY’S ANATOMY: “Shame On You” by Mariah McManus (from the album Nice To Meet You)
